Managed Hunts
2011 Spring Turkey will be held April 30 and May 1 and the drawing is closed.
2011 Fall Deer Hunt will be held October 8 and 9 and the deadline to have your application turned in is August 19, 2011. Applications will be mailed to all who request beginning the middle of July, 2011
The Missouri Department of Conservation partners with the Southwest Center for Independent Living and the Sho-me Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation to host a spring turkey hunt and a fall managed deer hunt annually. Both of these events are held at the Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center at Bois D’ Arc, Missouri (Map). Each of these hunts is specifically open to persons with disabilities who are unable to hunt unassisted.
A hunting packet containing the Letter of Interest, Application, Statement of Eligibility, and Physician Letter will be mailed to you upon request. These forms will need to be completed by you and your physician and mailed to the address below by the deadline indicated. You will need your conservation ID number located on the back of your Heritage Card or on the front of previously purchased hunting or fishing permits. Upon receipt of all required forms, the staff at the Shooting Range will then conduct a drawing to fill the assigned spots.
For those chosen to participate in the hunt every effort will be made to accommodate your specific needs. Breakfast and lunch will be provided as well as bottled water, milk, and juice.
NOTE: This doctor’s certification is to determine if the applicant is overall healthy enough to participate in the event without further compromising their condition. Along with this will include the date and time of the required pre-hunt clinic to be held at the Dalton Range near Bois D’ Arc. We will work with each person to see what if any type of adaptive equipment is required for their participation.
